Am I misreading this?

According to Trey Gunn (ex King Crimson)'s online diary, Eddie Jobson played with Fairport?  If so, what was he doing up there and what did he play, and when can he join full time?!

No, it looks like you're reading that correctly.

There's a review of the Petersburg gig in Russian here:
http://www.kommersant.ru/doc.aspx?fromsearch=eb07a530-1f4e-4abb-a7f9-e7f702bd8898&docsid=1023027

The main points - Aqarium played first, and their presence ensured that the gig was sold out - apparently some initially weren't sure why Aqaurim played a short set or who Fairport where, but BG used his 'patronage' to explose Russian Fans to Fairport, something the article says he has wanted to do for a few years - seems like it was pretty successful too. Ric and Chris apparently joined Aqaurium for their last song.

It gives a bit of background about Fairport and their history, L and L, Cropredy.
Rik seemed to enjoy it all, asking the crowd 'Can we come back please?'

And - Aqaurium have been invited to play Cropredy next year!!!
