Never a more important time to ensure that cultural exchange and dialogue takes place, particularly with the British Council pulling out of many cities in Russia and being harrased in the few in which it remains. I've lived there for two years and people are often extremely interested in British history, arts and folklore.

Kazan has a fasciniating history as the Tartar capital and that should be an interesting festival.
The venue in Moscow literally translates as the 'Caviar club' - go easy on the fish-eggs chaps!

It has quite an eclectic line-up- quite a few of the current King Crimson line up with their own bands

Including KTU with the amazing accordionist Kimmo Pohjonen

And the Adrian Belew Power Trio

I would love to go back to russia, and this would be a perfect excuse if only i could afford it.

They can try. I found some very questionable looking vegetables when there, but at least i knew what they were, whereas no one could identify the grey meat we were served. We ate a lot of cereal bars and chocolate that week.

On the telly at the moment is the guy cycling the world.  He's a veggie needing a sh"tload of calories a day and is in that part of the world finding it quite difficult to find veggie stuff.

Hang on though, he's in the Ukraine.  Same thing I suppose.

An a-list Russian music journalist visited Crops and here http://kommersant.ru/doc.aspx?fromsearch=28985c22-c646-42b9-90dc-69a32a967d9e&docsid=1011062 are some of his ruminations. In Cyrrilic, sadly....

I was just doing it on Babelfish and was going to post it: but Bob beat me to it and I must confess that the Google 'puter translation reads easier that my previously trusted Alta Vista..
Thanks for the lead there Bob!
