I know this is stupidly early, but I picked up a newsletter this weekend that clearly states this band have been booked for Cropredy 2009 - apparently Peggy saw them somewhere in France & loved them....

The band? Churchfitters

A big quote on their myspace site From Peggy - "I knew as soon as I saw Boris's instruments that the Churchfitters were going to be interesting. However, on watching their set I can honestly say that they are the most musically inventive quartet that I have seen in decades. They received a standing ovation from the festival. Go and see them and you will understand why. A must." DAVE PEGG, FAIRPORT CONVENTION AND CROPREDY FESTIVAL"

Just youtubed them. They look really good. Just realised that they were part of the interval music at Shrewsbury. Here's their great version of South Australia - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pgUuoch3vis&feature=related

I saw them about a year ago at Colchester - the place was packed.  They were very exciting, quite Bretonish.  We bought a couple of CDs - time to have another listen, I think.

They're listed to play at Biddulph FC very shortly. The next season also includes Iain Matthews , Boo, Megson, Julie Fowlis, Vin Garbutt and several more . Looking good.

Just watched a vid - they look great!

The review of Fairport's Petersburg gig in the Russian paper Kommersant reports that Aquarium have been invited to play next year too. See the 'Fairport in Russia thread' for more details and a link.

From a Q & A on RT's website....

"I try to get to Cropredy every 2 or 3 years. The 'big' reunion years, where the vintage lineups stagger back on stage to salute the old regiment, seem to fall on the 2s and 7s, and we had a great one last year. I'll be back in 09."

No-one has been announced yet, so the only certainties are Fairport and the winners of the BBC Young Folk Awards, who get offered a slot as part of their award. Not that they have to take it up, but I can't see why Megan and Joe Henwood won't be there.

There's a certain amount of expectation that Richard "Rain God" Thompson will be there as he seems to alternate years and wasn't about last year.

When acts are announced, you'll seem the on this page and no doubt discussed here. Until they are officially announced, don't get excited if an act says they'll be at Croppers as we have seen several fall by the wayside in the contractual negotiations over the years.

Hope this helps.

Caught the Churchfitters last Saturday in the depths of Suffolk and a newish Arts Centre (New Cut AC) in Hailsworth....I think they'll go down very well if booked!

Infectious tunes, interesting arrangements some slightly dodgy choreography (! - a la Spinal Tap...). Different! Recommended!

They certainly sound interesting!

I love it when the names of the bands start to come out, especially if I've not heard of them. Trawling my way around the net finding out about bands is one of the best parts. Smiley

Not quite that severe - but over-expressed hard-rock poses for what was really only light folk-rock....brought a smile, anyway!

Andy - none of these are confirmed, but I've overheard RT say he & the band are due - and there's the quote I posted above from RTs website....and the Churchfitters said that Peggy had invited them in a flyer I saw for their current tour. So at least the 'rumour' is first-hand in both cases!

Sid Kipper has announced in his newsletter (The Trunch Trumpet) that he will be appearing at Cropredy on August 15th (I presume he means on stage).

With the prospect of the new LJE album, I got to wondering what the chance of a Cropredy appearance would be?
