also the beret'd one sung meet on the ledge .. introduced by the presenter as " meet the ledge " and recommended the incredible string band circa late 60's for x factor type shows. he also chatted about the 1000 yrs project, fairport, cross cultural music, and reconciling sufi mysticism with his english background. this was then followed by " dad's gonna kill me " and discussion regarding what his remaining musical ambitions are.

Thanks for pointing this one out, would have missed it otherwise.
Richard was fairly blunt about x-factor type singers, they may have fantastic voices but they don't know how to sing a song.
Good stuff!

This was originally broadcast on the BBC News Channel - in fact a day or so before the Andrew Marr show, and was the programme that he was reported to have had a sore throat on.

Thought he was very patient with a spectacularly ignorant inquisitor.... yea he was... i just don't get why they don't do their research ( it is only respectful to do so ) although to be fair this one had done a bit and asked * some * good questions although her questioning about the sufism bit was irritating.

Saw this last night on BBC News 24 - the interviewer had done some research but she kept interrupting as if her questions were far more important than the answers, which became very annoying. RT was bang on point about the X-Factor etc winners: there is more to being a great singer than the mindless vocal gymnastics that pass for R&B/soul these days..

Thanks for this Sam, and thanks for the i-player link Tim.
I thought it was rather sweet. Especially liked the way she spoke of Folk Rock as something he'd just invented last week. A bit like interviewing Johnny Rotten, and saying "So punk rock, what's all that about then"...

Having Richard sitting in front of you singing Meet On The Ledge (albeit a rather quirky version); now that's worth telling your kids about!

And a nice Meet On The Ledge tucked in amongst, what, seven or eight other live performances?
