sorry ive not been online lately not had any internet for a week,(good old virgin media)..thanks for your responses all gratefully recieved.. the lyrics i can remember for those who may know are from the end of the chorus and are something like     "and the porter is still waiting, to take us down the line(i think), thanks for any help you may come up with....regardsruss

If so the song is I'll keep it With Mine, from What we did on our Holidays

Yes, one of the few Dylan covers that makes it sound like anything but a Dylan song.
Another is The French Girl by Ian & Sylvia, as well as by Gene Clark.
