I reckon she's about the best interpreter of Sandy's songs around at the moment. So c'mon chaps, give Chris some more songs and make her 300 mile trip worthwhile as well
Don't agree. I'm hoping they share out the vocal duties as widely as possible, even bring in some new talent. |

Don't agree. I'm hoping they share out the vocal duties as widely as possible, even bring in some new talent. Me too. But to be honest, I'm also rather hoping they rather concentrate on the rather fine run of (admitedly male) vocalists they've got on the stage for the duration as well.... |

I hope this isn't going to turn in to a sort of "Tonight Matthew I am going to be Sandy Denny". I'm looking forward to a celebration of Fairport 67 - 70. There is only one of everyone else (though I presume DM will be Martin Lamble on the relevant songs). We only really need one "Sandy" or maybe two if Vicky Clayton has not yet left the country.

You have the new FC all year round, winter tour, acoustic tour, Cropredy... Bring on all the "new talent" you like... The 18th July show will, I hope, be solely reserved for the REAL 1969'ers (other than the honorable substitutes where the vicissitudes of history dictate). Share oiut the vocal duties between Iain, Richard, Simon... even Ashley (hold on there - ed)... and an appropriate "guest Sandy"... what more does one need? It will be great! |

But Fairport and guests is Cropredy Saturday night. I thought this was supposed to be a celebration of the Witchseason years. I'm sure it will be great. I'm just not sure that it will be what it first appeared. |

We should remember the two concerts at the Barbican are being put together by Joe Boyd to celebrate the contribution made to folk music by the Witchseason label.
This is what the Barbican website tells us about the event;
The lineup for the Barbican Concert will be combinations of Simon Nicol, Ashley Hutchings, Dave Mattacks, Dave Pegg, Iain Matthews, Dave Swarbrick and Richard Thompson – and an array of guest singers.
The evening is part of the Witchseason Weekender, July 18 & 19 A celebration of the Witchseason label and the man who did so much to support and promote the British folk-rock scene in the extraordinarily creative years of the late 1960s, Boston-born producer and label boss Joe Boyd.
Curated by Boyd himself, these concerts are a reminder of the continuing vitality and relevance of the scene which produced Nick Drake, Sandy Denny and Fotheringay, Fairport Convention, the Incredible String Band and the UFO club – all aspects of the legacy of the Witchseason label and production house.
It's Joe Boyd's gig, so I guess the musicians who agree to perform, will do as he requests.

Nothing to do wth being b***** precious... a LOT to do with looking forward to what has been trailed as a celebration of 1969 FC... not the Incredible String Band, not Martin Carthy, not Teddy Thompson...
