I agree, the Barbican is a lovely venue, comfortable seats, good views. Watch out for the price of a botle of beer though.  |

Would agree with Annie above; the actual concert hall is a great venue- comfortable seats, good sound, with a nice "vibe" to the place- but long queues in the intermission to pay £3.50 for a small bottle of beer. I didn't bother when going to see RT. There are 3 eating places within the Barbican itself- best value is probably the downstairs "lakeside cafe"- very busy, but large space- most concert goers seem to go there early evening- food is not that cheap, (but not too expensive either), same sort of prices for beer and wine as in the bars.

Has anyone any more information about this event, other than that on Swarb's site? I only ask as it is the same weekend as Latitude and as I have previously mentioned we were thinking of trying to get tickets for that this year (on sale 23rd March). I'm a Barbican member and haven't had any details - nor is the date shown on their website so I imagine that all sorts of negotiations are now taking place having got the Winter Tour out of the way. If anyone has any inside info they could share that would be great.
I'm also reliably informed that it is our wedding anniversary that day!

Update from a Barbican press release:
"• Witchseason Weekender. A celebration of the Witchseason label and the man who did so much to support and promote the British folk-rock scene in the extraordinarily creative years of the late 1960s, Boston-born producer and label boss Joe Boyd. Curated by Boyd himself, the first concert will be a reunion concert by Fairport Convention, with original members including Richard Thompson and material from the group’s classic albums, such as Liege and Lief and Unhalfbricking. The second will feature the music of the Incredible String Band with guest appearances by Richard Thompson, legendary singer-songwriter Vashti Bunyan and Canadian folk hero Kate McGarrigle. (18 and 19 July)"

That is so far removed form my understanding of the situation as last discussed with Joe Boyd and the bookers at the Barbican it reads like Science fiction! Joe's busy on a film in New York right now but I shall ask him for clarification ASAP and get back to you all. |

It's just been explained to me that it's 'sold out' to the members - i.e. the members early booking allocation has all gone - but Martin is right with his info above. Also bookable by phone at that time.

I've heard back from Joe (he's actually on the West Coast now) and he has lit a fire under the chair of whoever it was who wrote the PR blurb referred to earlier. Who knows how long it will take for the smoke heat and fumes to percolate up to the point when the CORRECT information is uploaded, but at least the process has begun. Clarity would be good! |
