Jack, I saw a reference to the International Submarine Band in Unterberger's book about an hour before you namechecked them, and I can't remember anything about it (trying to watch TV at the same time, not a good idea) The bloody index is useless. Could you enlighten us a bit? Ta!
That was Gram Parson's first band wasn't it? Very country-flavoured rock as one might expect. Yes, but more rocky than you might expect at times.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xnp20QcH0s

Anybody got any idea what time this might finish? I'm getting a bit worried about getting home. The Barbican is in the wrong part of London for me and I haven't booked any accommodation. I should be ok provided it finishes by about 11pm.

It's a 7.30pm start isn't it? I can't see it going for more than 3 hours, probably less.....

With a 7.30 start I would have thought it should be done and dusted before 11pm. If you want to find out for sure you could always try calling the box office on 020 7638 8891 between 9am - 8pm and posing the question

You are probably right Chris but if anyone is worried about getting home, it's worth a call. There is also a fair chance they have a curfew in place at Barbican

The concert is scheduled to finish at 10.30. Whether that allows for encores, roof-raising or unexpected jollities I don't know

"Sometimes I get real mad When people treat me bad; I don't have time to think and so I get real mad. I bite my nails and if that fails IO go get myself stoned; but when I do I think of you and then I hurry home. WHERE I'VE GOT CHORES TO KEEP ME BUSY A CLOCK TO KEEP MY TIME A PRETTY GIRL WHO LOVES ME WITH THE SAME LAST NAME AS MINE; AND WHEN THE FLOWERS WILT, A BIG OLD QUILT TO KEEP US WARM. I'VE GOT THE SUN TO SEE YOUR BLUE EYES AND TONIGHT YOU'RE IN MY ARMS" Those are ISB lyrics Bob... it's not addressed to you

from another site................ (Sandy Denny group)
I`ve received a message from Linde Nijland, a Dutch musician and a Sandy fan. She says she`ll sing one or two Sandy Denny songs with Fairport on July 18th in the Barbican Hall, London, as part of an All Star Fairport Convention concert. Linde will also play a set with Bert Ridderbos at the Barbican freestage earlier that day.

At my age I welcome the repetition...
By the way, anyone know if Linde Nijland is singing on 18th?

According to Joe Boyd's latest newsletter guest vocalists are: Martin Carthy, Chris and Kellie While, Teddy and Kamila Thompson and Linde Nijland.
Not sure if all these names have appeared before - Kamila and Kellie were new to me.

Unterberg book? Not the one about The Velvet Underground? Hi Jack - no it was "Eight Miles High", his second folk-rock one. Got it from our public library, somebody cool and switched on must work there! He makes a few contentious statements about the current-ish English scene but generally it's quite a good read. Seems to be one of those people who absorbs arcane knowledge like blotting paper - I got lost once or twice!

Does anyone know the policy on taking videos for personal use at the Barbican? I feel a YouTube coming on.
