Does anyone know the policy on taking videos for personal use at the Barbican? I feel a YouTube coming on.
Isn't there a rather large contradiction inherent in this request?

Last time I was there, you couldn't even take stills on your mobile phone.

They'll ask you to stop - and I have seen people thrown out.
Your call, of course.

And I have to say - quite rightly.
I am getting sick to death at paying good money to see gigs only to be elbowed to one side while someone gets their perfect 'pics' or being forced to watch through the lens of someones camera. It was the one and only thing that annoyed me at the Big Session last weekend.
The old addage of 'take nothing but memories' is still the best in my opinion, and a lot of artists/venues are also coming round to this way of thinking, hence the bans.

No one has ever had to look through my lens, nor have I ever got in people's way - that's just rude. As it is, the concert has been sold out for weeks, and lots of people would like to see a clip or two, I'm sure: memories are made up of all sorts of things, but would everyone rather this ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP_iD1miEVQ) not been taken, for instance?

Did you ask Percy? It's a bit different in a festival context anyway....lots more space etc etc But indoors especially, I can't stand over-zealous photography/filming at gigs. But then I like listening to the performances, seeing the photographs and watching the youtube vids. So I am a total hypocrite. Nothing new there

As I understand it currently, Fairport's usual policy of welcoming cameras to their gigs doesn't apply to this one as it isn't being put on by them.
It'll be the usual policy for those with press passes of the the first three numbers I understand, and after that, none at all.

Nobody has said there will be one, but nobody has said there won't, so who knows?

That's too many guests. Why have I got a slightly sinking feeling about this? You're not alone

Does anyone know who organised this - as opposed to promoted it? I just can't work out why certain guests have been chosen: nothing against them, but they don't seem very relevant to early Fairport.

Presumably Joe Boyd, or those on behalf of Joe Boyd?

...hotfoot from the angry thread; has a meetup been organised? There are plenty of pubs in the vicinity, especially between Liverpool Street and Barbican on foot. I wouldn't recommend the pubs beneath or in the immediate vicinity - all Slug and Lettuce type places. This looks like a good one: http://www.pubs.com/pub_details.cfm?ID=181

Barbican site has been update with the news about Swarb but also seems to think it's the first 5 albums: The Barbican has learned that violinist Dave Swarbrick has decided, for personal reasons, not to take part in the All-Star Fairport Convention Concert on Saturday 18 July. While we are sorry to hear this, this much-awaited reunion concert will still continue as planned, focussing on the music from the first five Fairport Convention albums - including Liege And Lief. Taking part (in alphabetical order) will be : Martin Carthy, Judy Dyble, Ashley Hutchings, Dave Mattacks, Iain Matthews, Simon Nicol, Linde Nijland, Dave Pegg, Kami Thompson, Richard Thompson, Teddy Thompson, Chris While and Kellie While.
