This may be a slightly naughty post and it may not be in the most appropriate place (Mods?)
Julie Covington ... Plus was the CD release of Julie Covington's first album on which Messrs Thompson, Nicol & Lucas (amongst others) played. I am very keen to get hold of a copy of this CD, not particularly because of the Fairport connection but because I remember enjoying tracks from it when the album was originally released more than 30 years ago. I have been surprised to discover that, not only is the CD no longer available, but it is in fact rarer than hens' teeth! The only copies to be found are going for silly money which will not find it's way to the artists and is therefore, in my book, profiteering.
If anybody can point me in the direction of a copy of this album I will be most grateful. I will happily pay a sensible price or make a contribution to charity or the PRS or other appropriate body. Any ideas?
Meanwhile I shall continue the search...

I feel your pain - I have a vinyl copy (but no record player!) and would love the CD. It also has the "Only Women Bleed/Easy To Slip" single (which I also have) as bonus tracks.
It's a rather intriguing record - sung by Julie, produced by Boyd, arrangements by John Cale, and perfroming songs by RT, Sandy, Kate Bush et al!

I was a huge Julie Covington fan in the 70s - very fond memories of Rock Follies in particular!  I was hoping this post was about her touring or even playing at Cropredy.... But it was not to be  Just checked Amazon - the CD is on offer for £76!!!!!  |

I've got her CD with her brilliant version of I Want To See the Bright Lights on,is that the one ? If so and you want a copy please get in touch and i'll send it.
I've also got Rock Follies series one on DVD,a bit cringe inducing but watchable.

Good album, very enjoyable versions of RT and Sandy songs, alas, have vinyl copy only...need the wonderful guys at Fledg'ling or Talking Elephant to reissue the CD

I've only got the vinyl version of that album, but I've got the CD of her earlier album 'The Beautiful Changes', which is rather lovely. Julie Covington could do no wrong as far as I'm concerned (shame that has to be in the past tense, but she's not exactly active, musically, these days, is she?!).
I remember seeing her in Godspell many, many moons ago - I'd only gone so that I could drool over David Essex, but it was Julie's singing that I came home raving about!

I tried to find it years ago when I first heard her on tracks on one of Guv'nor CDs, and I'm sure I had her singing on a vinyl of Cats, or am I completely at sea this morning? I know I drew a complete blank at the time when I tried to find out what had become of her since. A great shame.

Yes, she seems to have "retired" from both music and the stage sometime in the 90s. Even her fan sites have no new information. I am going to see Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds later in the year and had hoped she might be coaxed out to sing the role of Parson Nathaniel's wife, which she originated, but it seems not. |

It looks pretty spectacular and musically is faithful to the album. Justin Hayward and Chris Thompson were in good voice and the guy playing the Artilleryman was very good so I am looking forward to it. The only slightly weird element was the animated face of Richard Burton! Maybe they'll have improved on that for this tour. |
