The Talkawhile Awards for Folk Music

The trophies are now lined up and ready for presentation  Fez

We are now looking for people to help with issuing the awards to our winners. As a reminder here is a list of the awards to be made and a note of where, when and by whom each award will be presented:

Please post in this thread or send an IM to one of the moderators if you are able to help with the presentation of an award. Let us know who, when and where you can help out. This list will be filled in as presenters come forward.

We would like each award to be presented at a concert or public event where the winner is featured. Presenters should be be prepared for the following:

  • You'll need tickets to the event - hey, we're not made of money!
  • You should be with someone who can take photos to display on the board
  • You should be able to make contact with the winner beforehand - leaping up on stage unnounced might not be a welcome move!
  • You should be able to make contact with the venue and/or promoter - everyone concerned should be aware of what is going on and should give their consent
  • You should give us sufficient notice so that the trophy can be arranged

We know that some of the winners are members of the board. If any winners are reading this; first "congratulations!" Next, please send us an IM with ideas of where and/or how we might arrange the presentation.

Cheers!

Me and my son (Adam W) would like to present Phil Beer's award if possible.
We will be at the Gosport and Fareham Festival on 10th April when Show of Hands are appearing.

If Julie Fowlis rolls past Brighton this year (as she has done for a couple of years now), then I'd be more than happy to do the presentin'  Fez

We have a very short window of opportunity to present to Maddy Prior at some time on the current Steeleye Span tour...

We have had an offer from Delfini and we would be happy for her to make this presentation. However, she has already presented a Hancock trophy once before, so we thought that, before confirming her prsentation, we should offer one last, quick chance for someone new to step forward and have a go.

So, if you are going to see Steeleye in the next couple of weeks and would like to present the trophy, please say so now!

If you're happy for Delfini to present then that's fine too  Smiley

Cheers

Well, the Maddy presentation seems to have gone ok  Cheesy

Now we need to arrange the remaining awards.

MikeB has offered to present to Jeanna Leslie and Siobhan Miller in Glasgow sometime in May which is great. Rory, I'm keeping an eye on the Julie Fowlis tour dates. And apologies to Poor Will that we couldn't get the Phil Beer presentation sorted out for Easter - we'll look for another avenue...

Any more ideas, requests, etc?

Cheers

Thanks for the offer!

I talked with Bellowhead's Tour Manager Mark recently about their presentation. We reached the conclusion for a fair number of reasons that a tour date would be preferable to them than a festival. The band have a tour lined up this autumn with dates starting to emerge and they were making a decision on whether to go for another Welsh tour next Jan. So there will be quite a few dates to pick from  Smiley

It's not in the bag yet... there needs to be a venue, a date and a plan  Wink

That goes for all presentations. Sometimes they come together really easily, sometimes they're hard and take lots of time and effort to sort out, but they all begin with a plan  Smiley

Sorry for the lack of news but at last some activity on the Hancocks!

There are two presentations now in the pipeline:

Poor Will will be presenting Phil Beer with his Musician of the Year Hancock at Show of Hands' concert in Chichester on 14th October.

MikeB will be presenting Julie Fowlis with her Singer of the Year Hancock at her concert in Edinburgh on 27th October.

If you're attending either of these concerts, please give a big cheer for the winners and the presenters! Cheesy

Now we're looking for someone to present Chris Wood with his award. If you're planning to see Chris during his November/December tour and would like to present a trophy, please let us know.

Cheers
