Sorry if this has been posted before but Julie Fowlis singing Farewell at Cropredy last year was one of the most glorious things I've ever heard and others have said similar.
So when the puff for the CD Live at Cropredy 08 said that it featured the Sandy tribute section very heavily I was overjoyed - apart from an iffy You Tube or two there didn't seem any other way of hearing it again.
And today the CD arrived AND IT'S NOT ON THERE - cue dismay and despair..
Does anyone know why? There were whispers at the time that she wasn't happy with her own performance, so has she vetoed it? Are there contractual things that stop it being on the Album? (No Meet on the Ledge Finale either - is that because she was in it?). Is she issuing it herself?
I can't believe there's any nastiness involved, nor can I honestly believe that this could possibly be a "quality control" issue (i.e. it wasn't felt to be good enough) So what is going on..?

It's probably not something that will ever be publicly discussed by either the artist or the CD compilers.. You can speculate endlessly, but it's unlikely that you will find the answer on a forum Probably the only answer you will ever be likely to get is 'contractual difficulties' Jude

The reason for the absence of Meet on the ledge was Fairport's choice. See, they wanted to concentrate on things that haven't been previously released by this line-up, hence the no Matty Groves either. They also wanted to concentrate on the Sandy tribute, so I was also confused as to why Julie wasn't on it.

I can't see why, but I don't think Julie was very happy with her performance, which is probably why it didn't get included. A real shame, as it was a beautiful performance.

If I remember rightly, from where I was sitting the rain was louder than the vocals

Mike, I can assure you that, were it good enough to be there, it would be there. I'm given to understand from a very reliable source that the recording did not get the approval of the artistes involved because it just wasn't good enough. No contractual issues.
What may have sounded great to you on the night doesn't necessarily come across that way when the recording is listened to in the cold light of another day.

I guess their standards are higher than yours, Mike.
Nice welcome from you, Andy. Welcome, Mike. Most of us are lovely and fluffy here, except that miserable bastard, AL.

and so we enter the bootleg/dowload/artists approval arena Why cant artists tell us why they dont want a Live recording/gig released ? Once its live its out there isnt it? what's the difference between me recording Comic Relief tonight and passing the bits I like to others (free of course) and me downloading (or trading) a live performance of an artist?

Robbo,
I don't know if you turn out substandard work (whatever you do) but when I have, I usually don't like it seeing light of day.
Think about it.

No difference. They are both illegal. Paul

Just listened to it now... If Julie feels it's substandard then I can sort of understand why. But it's still "lovely...really lovely" as Peggy said straight after...very pensive, very expressive.

No difference. They are both illegal. Paul Mmm. There might be a little difference. See my post in Bootlegs. There are circumstances where you can record stuff for personal use - but you are still infringing copyright if you don't have consent, but immediately you share it you get into pretty difficult territory. If you start doing it for reward, you are into a serious offence for which you can get 10 years.
