Spotted a new CD in Fopp (near Leicester Sq) yesterday - live from Maidstone - 2 songs from Matthews' Southern Comfort sandwiched between 6 or 7 from Fairport, for £13.  Think I might try to get it cheaper elsewhere, though.

A CD rather than a DVD?  Interesting....

I was aware of this. Presumably purely the soundtrack to the movie.

Indeed.  I suppose I'll get it, but I can't say I have that much enthusiasm for such a short set.

Yes, it's just the soundtrack from the DVD as suspected - a new release by Voiceprint. Here's the details from their website:

http://www.voiceprint.co.uk/web/Release/TPCD105/

'This performance has never been released on CD and as such will appeal to the large and dedicated following that both Fairport Convention and Ian Matthews enjoy'.

Well maybe, but I can't see the point myself - if they'd found the audio of the full set that really would be something, but this isn't going to persuade me to put my hand in my pocket.

why not just rip the audio from the dvd?
the whole thing is only 30 minutes long, does that qualify as a film? a short documentary? who gives one Roll Eyes

Maybe if they'd combined the CD and DVD in one budget package....

I believe it's called "Milking the punters for all the cash they have."

I won't be buying it.

I don't think it's that cynical.  They're for different audiences.  For instance I buy tons of CDs but rarely buy DVDs, so it's probably aimed at folks like me.  Listening to music and watching bands play on a DVD are two very different things.

Generally I'd agree....but for something that is (both aurally and visually) such poor quality (even after the supposed 'upgrade') and lasts for about 30 mins tops, I don't think it would be too much to ask.

It's a lovely little bit of film, but I can't think the audio would work that well without the film (the joke about the helicopter and so on)...

I've just bought a live Jethro Tull CD/DVD combo for less than ten pounds.  I'll probably never watch the DVD, but at least they bundled them both together...

That's quite cheap for some of 'em.  Crazy prices on there sometimes.  I think they're just waiting to snag some lazy, impatient millionaire.

This was my 1st Fairport gig so I wish there was more tracks available instead of just the soundtrack of the DVD. Do Simon or Peggy have any memories on what the other songs were played that day? I can remember what a wonderful day it was but I can't remember what was played.

Caveat emptor.

I bought it and it's not worth listening to, except possibly at a cut-out price.

What looks and sounds great on the restored DVD sounds bootleg-quality on an official CD, truthfully.  In addition, the CD contains narration from the film soundtrack, without adding a single note of additional music.

Just my humble opinion...

And now it will be released on lp as well, by Vinyl Lovers.
App this is a russian label, which doesn't nec mean that it's not a legal release Undecided
They did the Sandy Denny album "Sandy" too, with two bonus tracks from the soundtrack of "Pass Of Arms"

You can see where they got the idea for the artwork
