Maybe I'm missing something here, but bear with me....

In the latest issue of "R2", it states that Cropredy 2010 is the 30th Anniversary so get your tickets early, etc.

Now, I've only been following FC for a few years, but I'd always thought Cropredy started back in the 70s - or am I just confused?

Depends when you consider 'Cropredy' starting....

The Farewell 'gig' was in 1979
Cropredy Fetes that Fairport appeared at were in 1977, 1978 & 1979
A reunion took place in 1980
The Broughton Castle gig was in 1981
The Festival proper started in 1982

So they're using the Reunion gig in 1980 as the first. Missing 1981, 2010 would then be number 30

Wow, I always thought I was miles behind, but next year is my 15th, so I'm only halfway behind the band themselves!

For a while FC put a number on the progrmmes. For instance, in 1986 they said 7th annual reunion.
It all depends when you start.
I remember Status Quo bringing out an album in 1982 (called 1982) and promoting it as their 25th year, five years later they were saying 30 years.

Err ... 5+25 does = 30 ... why wouldn't they promote it as 30?

Perhaps Nick means that 5 years later they were promoting that album as being the 30th anniversary, rather than the 25th.

No you dont remember that - Even Francis Rossi isnt daft enough to claim that he founded Quo in 1957/1952 (especially as he would have been only 8/3 at the time).

You remember an album called 1+9+8+2  (which = 20) which celebrated the 20th anniversary of Rossi and Lancaster meeting for the first time in their second year at comprehensive school! (courtesy of Wikipedia)

I believe the band should use all options available to them.  If one 30th Anniversary worked well for them, I see no reason why they shouldn't justify another!

The bigger the anniversary the more likely it is that Richard Thompson and Swarb will turn up. Bring it on, say I!

Must admit I thought that 2011 was the 30th, but I stand corrected.

Blimey, and I'll be 30 years old... at the 30th reunion! Weird...  Shocked

Still not convinced until Fairport actually announce it, though. Maybe if they don't get the headliners they want they'll cancel the big anniversary until 2011  Grin
