As I sat down last Wednesday to catch a typically bizarre episode of ITV's Midsomer Murders, little could I have imagined that the twists and turns of a plot which turned up the usual high body count, would also feature none other than Fairport Convention's very own Chris Leslie. Appearing as part of a fiddle, squeeze box and guitar trio playing at a folk dance and an outdoor carnival, Chris was seen occasionally over the course of several minutes, thereby demonstrating further strings to his bow by the addition of television drama to his already impressive CV. Unless I was very much mistaken, this was no mere look-alike/sound-alike and Chris's trio were even heard to be playing a trad tune from the Fairport repertoire during their brief on-screen appearances. The members of the trio went uncredited by the programme makers, but was I the only one to see this momentous event, and can anyone confirm Chris's involvement or put names to the squeeze box/guitar players?

Only if he can get into the Arms, which is doubtful given he only has 1 post  Maybe a mod could move that discussion into this thread since it seems to be relevant here ... ? |

not midsomer or mr leslie but itv and another fairport fiddler last saturday afternoon they showed "far from the madding crowd" and Swarb was heavily featured at some points, i cant believe ive never noticed him before, probably too busy watching Julie Christie  |

Good story this.
Swarb's final shot on that movie was running a bit late: a hair in the gate or somesuch - and it was a mad scramble for the runner who raced him to the local railway station so he could make the evening gig with Carthy somewhere in London. He was wiping the make-up off en route.
Anyway, he got to the gig halfway through the first set to cheers from the crowd and relief from the promoter and his musical partner, strode to the stage beaming and rolled up his sleeves and opened the fiddle case amidst the usual excited expectation to reveal green velvet and no violin, still on set down in the country.
More haste, less speed!
