From the latest Beesweb email...

Quote

These performances will be part of a special RT tour with a full band performing two full sets. The first half will be brand-new, never heard before material, and will be recorded live at the show for inclusion on Richard's upcoming CD. This process is a rarity in today's music scene, where artists typically spend weeks or months in the studio recording new material. The second half of the show will  include Richard Thompson classics from his over 40 years in the music business.

Michael Jerome (drums)
Taras Prodaniuk (bass)
Pete Zorn (multi-instruments, background vocals)
Joel Zifkin (violin)

The tour runs from February 15 - 25, 2010 with dates in Seattle, Portland, Eugene, Arcata & San Francisco.

Just seen this, rehearse a tight band, and record some new material on stage...what a great idea ! Nice to get the awesome Pete Zorn on an album of new RT songs as well (first time since Hand Of Kindness I believe).

Pete Zorn is just a master.  Saw him last night on the Steeleye Span tour.  Quietly brilliant. Afro Fez

I'm not an expert on the Dead, but aren't these just general live albums rather than whole albums of new material recorded live?

Is there anybody else who habitually changes between wind and stringed instruments in mid song?

Anthem: all new material - actually this album was a mix of live and studio recordings, often on the same track
Live Dead - mostly new material with the exception of St. Stephen
Skull&Roses: new material with the exception of The Other One (first appeared on Anthem)
Europe 72 - half&half mixture of old and new material - mostly from American Beauty and Workingman's Dead, but China Cat Sunflower from Aoxomoxoa does appear
Bear's Choice - Except for Black Peter (Workingman's Dead), this is material that had previously not been released but had been part of their stage act for years
