Well, I'd hope my scenario was slightly more common and less impactful.
I have recently been given "Dicks Picks 1970-83" in digital form which seems to consist of 120 or so CD's and have no idea where to start other than at the first and working my way through.
Would that be the best approach, DeadHeads?

My advice would not be to cherry pick too much and to actually listen to a whole set rather than jump around in random. Personally speaking I'd start in the first half of the 70's too. Thinking about it, DP1 19 Dec 73 is a pretty good place to start... Enjoy

You could listen in chronological order, maybe that's what a true anorak would do. However you decide, I hope you enjoy it.

DP 18. Particularly the third disc, from Iowa. I got it as a bootleg audience tape very soon after it was recorded, and always thought it was the best tape I had ever heard. Then it finally came out as a Dick's Picks, no more audience chatter, quality sound... Scarlet Begonias seguing into Fire On The Mountain is a great example of their musical communication abilities, and maybe one of the greatest live moments that they ever had (at least that I have heard). When it was recorded FOTM had not been on any LPs (and when it finally did it was never nearly as good).

Apparently all 7,200 units of the GD Europe '72 box sold out in four days.
They say that a "music only version" will continue to be offered indefinitely.
I wasn't aware that what I ordered wasn't a "music only version", so what do they mean exactly? Are they talking about downloads?

Check the site first, Jules! They're going to keep printing the actual shows in their slipcases and carry on selling them, as a set, without the fancy box indefinitely. So that's good news I guess. Jules

Especially if it's cheaper for little ol me to buy! Its not, its the same price. I'm sorry...I'm just not playing any more. Everything about the release of this box has been done wrong.

I must admit David, that after reading that there won't be a reduction in price, I've decided to not play ball in this game. After all, how many versions of GDTRFB>IKYR etc, do I need? I must have about 20 versions already! There's plenty other versions 'out there' too.

You've got me intrigued there . I've been a Deadhead for 40 years and have never heard them play GDTRFB>IKYR as a combo. Is that a typo or do you know something I don't know? I can't possibly afford the Europe 72 box set right now and it is now sold out anyway. However I do feel a sense of relief that I may be able to buy some or all of the CD's at some point in the future now they have decided to remove the ridiculous limited edition idea.

Surely Pete meant NFA>GDTRFB>NFA. Or CCS>IKYR. Jules

If they lowered the price for the music only, it'd upset those who ordered the box for the music only. But, on our side, we're not going to pay for just the Cracker Jacks without the toy! Its a no win situation.......except for GDP and the $3.5 million they pulled in ( and more power to 'em, of course! ). Who knows. I might listen to my ratty copy of Rotterdam someday and think otherwise.

Superb! I love seeing him look happy (its all relative!). He always looks like he's carrying the weight of the world whenever you see him on stage with the Dead in the 90s. And he sort of was really...
