Not as much of a saving as I expected (£14.48 on Amazon) but still cheap (and postage free to the UK). Don't quite understand the cost of that v the box set, mind...

Nor me. I'm sitting on the fence here. I feel saturated by the Dead, yet I don't want to be kicking myself for missing out further on down the line. Jules

"I feel saturated by The Dead"
T-shirts (and arguably, waterproof clothing) shall be made.

Good ol' Spincds.
You say that - my experience is that getting my orders from them is somewhat akin to the old blood and stone situation. Jules

In general my main beef with them is the old turning dollars into pounds GD pricing policy...but even that pays dividends sometimes when Tax has to be paid.

4 times out of 5 I've had to chase 'em with new releases (they're fine with old stock). And it's Jules. You're getting as bad as Gym! Jules (see?)

'Tis a bit curious especially with free postage. Hmm, The box is £90 from Dead.net + P&P. Decisions, decisions. May get the Red Rocks & hoover up the rest once they become more widely available.

I don't whether you fellow Deadheads agree with me, but I'm getting a little tired of all of these mediocre bands climbing on the bandwagon. In fact, I didn't care much for the Fare Thee Well tour or the Garcia symphony stuff. Every other day another band crawls out of the woodwork to announce that they loved the Dead all along. I don't even care if Lesh or Weir gives them the stamp of approval.
For me, the Dead died when Jerome John Garcia died.

Yeah, I have some sympathy with your view, Pete. There has been such a proliferation of different permutations of line-ups with former members of varying levels of quality that I no longer actively seek them out, or even download very much. Leaving aside questionable covers by outsiders. While I enjoyed the July 4th show on the big screen, I've not seen / heard it again, nor any of the other nights. Like you, without Garcia it just doesn't cut the mustard. Plus, there is still so much Dead stuff I've not yet heard, I'd rather stick with the real McCoy. I'll give the new compilation a whirl, but suspect it'll be like "Deadicated", only interesting for a couple of listens. Hey ho.

When young(er) people get into good music and dig it, and want to play it, then I think it pretty damn churlish if we criticise them for it. Don't listen, by all means, but please don't be snotty that other people are enjoying it. On a good day, that's what i think anyway...on a bad day, I never want to hear a note they played after Brent joined

I'm thinking people like John Scofield etc here. It just seems that whole preconceived idea of 'if we say we like the Dead, their fans may latch onto our music'. That symphonic stuff is dire isn't it? I can't say I dislike Warren Haynes though.
