Cornell finally gets an official release...

https://www.spincds.com/coming-soon/cornell-5-8-77-3-cd

Nice.

It'll be interesting to hear how it stands up to versions already available. Personally, I always thought the previous night's Boston Garden show was at least as good, even with the equipment problems.  Smiley

Saw 'em a few weeks later in my hometown (Baltimore) at the end of May. One of the better shows of theirs that I saw. They were very good then. I remember they played a bunch of stuff from the upcoming album, songs we had never heard before, even one with Donna singing lead (!). And singing well (!).

I've played Bob Weir's new album twice through now, and it's absolutely lovely.

I like to call it "grown up" music, because it's soft, mid-tempo and mature, like me.  Smiley

Play some Pigpen.  44 years ago today.

As the gravestone says: "Pigpen was and is now forever one of the Grateful Dead"

Just spotted this on Amazon... FM recordings - 21 CDs (235 tracks!)  for £25?!

https://www.amazon.co.uk/71-Dead-21-BOX-SET/dp/B01N5XJCI7/ref=pd_sim_15_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=FXNJEW6A2YXDCR61ZQEK

I guess most if not all of these are already in circulation in "some form"...

Just wondering if anybody has heard any further details on this box set.
I was interested in the quality of the recordings more than anything. Presumably if they are fm recordings, then they should be of a reasonable standard.

Can't speak of this particular box, but these radio shows have been released previously on (usually) cheap & dubious editions. All interesting stuff, but some are better performances than others. Two stand outs are the Nothrop Aud, Minneapolis 19/10, which is Keith's first show & first airings of 6 new songs. The NY Winterland show is great, but my version has the best bit (Other One Reprise>Jam>Black Peter) missing.

For the price, it's probably worth a punt. However, if you don't "need" the artefact, it's all available to stream here for free & officially sanctioned.  Smiley

My first Grateful Dead experience (Bruce Hornsby and the Range don't count) Saturday night with Bob Weir and the Campfire Band at ACL Live.  The following review does it justice:

I'm sure the concert was superb, but you wouldn't guess it from that review would you?
He seemed more concerned with the dope levels and folk needing to stand for 3hrs!  Huh

Upon reflection, the review covers the ambience more than the music. For the record, the music was rapturous. "Morning Dew" was sheer magnificence. I think I caught a glimpse of what the GD must have been like at their peak. I have been moved similarly during Allman Brothers and Los Lobos concerts, as well as Richard Thompson's electric shows.

You should have supplied the review for them John!  I prefer your version, even from those few lines.  Wink

Just come across more a few more hours (yes, really) of rehearsal material from the "Blues For Allah" sessions.

Nice quality, some neat jamming, not at all iffy & generally most satisfying. Just about perfect for a lazy Sunday.

Some other oddities on the same page that might be worth investigating later.  Smiley

Did anyone hear Sounds of the Seventies with Johnnie Walker yesterday? He mentioned the Filmore East gig with the Beach Boys back in April 1971 - yes really! It is available online on archive streaming. Some interesting and curious stuff just wondering if anyone else has listened to it and what they think.

Interesting & curious indeed. Other than Merle Haggard's "Okie From Muskogee" hardly worth a second listen. Probably great fun on the night.  Smiley
