Just come across more a few more hours (yes, really) of rehearsal material from the "Blues For Allah" sessions. Nice quality, some neat jamming, not at all iffy & generally most satisfying. Just about perfect for a lazy Sunday. Some other oddities on the same page that might be worth investigating later. http://saveyourface.posthaven.com/Like button! Like button, too! Downloaded the whole shebang, about 5 hours. Some was extremely enjoyable.

Wowsers.... didn't know that. I wonder how many times the Dead were advertised over here before they finally made it!

Yup, looks like the spreadsheet author's Header name. Or - could it be 140 in Roman numerals, and if so, is there any significance in that number? There must be a Deadhead numerologist out there with a pet theory!

Just watched the first part of Long Strange Trip (all 6 parts now available on Amazon Prime - free monthly trials available, psychedelic fans!).
It's fantastic...great footage, nice interviews, but there are some very annoying traits (5 minute credits at both start and finish, weird clever-clever one stream of dialogue made out of two interviews by different people etc.). So...an element of too many cooks about it, but I'm fairly sure it will survive the test of time...sadly most of the participants will be long gone soon.

I think there was a review of this in The Guardian yesterday? Reckoned it was bit Garcia-centric..? Cheers, Slippy

Lol. That's hardly a surprise now, is it? I agree - but I'd be interested in how much there is on Pigpen (arguably as much a focal-point as Garcia in the very early days - discuss??) and personally I'd love to see more analysis of Bob & Phil (surely as integral to the overall sound of the Dead as Jerry). They are both unique players - but I'm no fan of Bob Weir's vocals!! Cheers, Slippy

Cheers, Slippy They don't really expand on it greatly but there were several of the "Pigpen was the leader of the band when it started" type comments.

I have been watching A Long Strange Trip, two episodes to go. I am slightly amazed at how honest the show has been about how unpleasant the members of the Dead family were. The outlaw life they created for themselves really must have been scary for many on the fringes. It's a good honest documentary.

Interesting comment Al. What is it about his voice that you don't like? Personally, I've always rated his vocals. My name's not Al, but sometimes Bob Weir's singing grates on me too. None of the band was particularly gifted in the singing department. Some may claim Pigpen was a decent blues hollerer. Jerry, for all his limitations, managed to sound very human and intimate as a singer. But Bob could often descend into hoarse shouting. It sounds like he's just trying too hard sometimes.
