So, it being a nice sunny day in Leeds today, I took off to walk along the Leeds - Liverpool canal with the dog.
I was wearing my 'Jewel In The Crown' sweatshirt and stopped off for a pint at a canal side pub (as you do).
I got chatting to a couple in there and the subject turned to my favourite holiday place, Greece.
After about 10 minutes, the bloke said " 'Ere, you're not that bloke who was arrested for plane-spotting are you ? He always wore a Fairport T-shirt."

Now, I'm not, but was wondering is he on Talkawhile ?

Does anyone know him ?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember his name is Mike and he wrote an article about his plane spotting experiences in the Cropredy program a few years back.

Yes Dan, his name is Mike Burnell,
The lovely annA rydeR managed to get his autograph when they met at the launch party for Fairports 35th birthday anniversary box set in 2002 http://www.rowdymusic.net/stuff.php?recordID=17

Peter I have to admit I took the info at face value from annA's page.

As it would appear you know the gentleman, maybe you can answer the original question posed by Ian, Is he a Talkawhiler ?

Not that I know of, no. I think he may be or have been at some point on the Fairport List, though.

Hi all,

As PHK says, Mike isn't a TAW-er, I don't think he is on the FC list, unless he only lurks. And yes, he was wearing a Swarbaid T-Shirt when he was seen on TV (but not obviously when he was in court).
