Hi Iain, I'm afraid to say that as a relative newcomer to your solo work, I've only got a few of your albums (up to Some Days You Eat The Bear), and haven't had the opportunity to explore beyond that. But, I do enjoy the different interpretations and cover versions on those albums, and wondered if you had any more particular songs (from the same time period, or more recently) that you'd like to cover?
Also, on a tangent, was the collection three Byrds-related cover versions on Journeys from Gospel Oak (Dillard & Clark's Polly, Sing Me Back Home, and Do Right Woman) a deliberate homage, or was it just a coincidence in terms of influence?

I always have covers up my sleeve. An ever growing book full of them in fact. There are too many wonderful songs floating around to ignore.

So here's one for the Talkawhilers... What do you reckon is Iain's best cover? Or what song would be good for Iain to do? My vote is for his take on Peter Gabriel's Mercy Street  I think that is very fine. Cheers Nick |

As I've said elsewhere, Iain's cover of "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" at Cropredy 1986 is one of only two covers of that song that I like. Have to say also that I loved the whole "No Grey Faith" project covering Sandy's songs.

I'm still in 2 minds about 'MOTL' - I think it's the only not full Fairport/RT version I know and it stops me in my tracks every time it comes out of the random hat.

Darkness, Darkness is my personal favourite. I nearly wept when Iain played it at a show earlier this year. |
