I'd like to add my thanks to you for doing this.

Sorry for continuing the string of backward-looking questions, but I've always been curious about your cover of the song Woodstock.
1. What gave you the idea to cover the song?
2. How did that arrangement come about? Was it an individual or group effort? Did someone have an inspiration, like "hey, wouldn't this song sound cool if we played it like this?" or was it more like each musician adding his part in, a little at a time until the final result was achieved?

Now I'm off to try to come up with a more forward-looking question

I presume you mean the MSc version! I've revisited the song several times over the years. The most recent interpretation being on the new MSC album, "Kind of new" coming out in the UK in late June. Acapella, with 53 tracks of vocals.
What can I say, it's a great song and in my book still relevent after all these years.
I brought it in. We all kicked in on the arrangement, simply because we had to work something out in a couple hours before a BBC radio recording. We had 3 songs and needed 4. As far as I remember, Gordon just played the riff, with a couple of effects on and we all loved it. Sometimes I wonder if it was the sound of his steel, rather than the song, that sold it!

Wow, a couple hours is all?  
I'm not really sure what drew me ... I think it was the stop-and-start intro that made me perk my ears up. At the time, I wasn't really a pedal steel fan ... I remember liking the song in spite of it  
Also, at the time, I wasn't really aware of Fairport or your connection with it. Sheltered youth
