Quite - although the RT Band are touring this year, it's the 45th next year (and I doubt he'll do both, but I'll be happy bunny if he does)

I'd be the first to admit that I have occasional holes in my appreciation of artists and if he's going to pull in a crowd, that's fine by me. I've been listening to some stuff posted on MySpace and it appears he's in the ambient millieu of which I only really appreciate Brian Eno and, despite his fame, I wouldn't see him at Croppers either, unless it's to help me to drift off to sleep after a few too many ales. Maybe Cat Stevens Yusuf can come back and sing some songs that people actually want to hear this time? Chris Difford has some decent tunes....  as does Justin Currie. Those two, togethr with Boo Hewerdine were the best in the BBC4 Singer/Songwriters series as far as I was concerned. Eddi Reader and the aforementioned Boo would be a great Saturday afternoon act. And whatever happened to Songs From The Blue Nun? I understand they've a new album coming out with superstar potential, can they be persuaded to at least play the Fringe, along with Circus Envy? |

Regretfully you are of course quite right. The pubs seem to have the same bands in constant use, Maybe we can have a morning stage sometime at the top of the field so that we can get some bands playing from, say, 10.30-12.00? |

It was more Tim Blake's Hawkwind years that I thought might have brought you together previously. Oh, and James runs Live at The Institute on the second Friday of every month, so he's busy...  |

I can get what attracts people to most bands, but there are one or two where I'm just flummoxed. |

I was a transient hawkwind fan. I really enjoyed seeing them several times at the old southend kursal in the early 70's. I can only remember three songs...silver machine, the one about starfighters and brainstorm. I've not listened to anything by them for years |

On the other hand, I was just struck by the thought of Gogol Bordello. That'd be an interesting band to have on Friday night, which will inevitably actually feature Richard Thompson as he wasn't on last year.
Gogol Bordello, yes please. As for Hawkwind, they were my favourite band for a time, at least until The Ramones and The Clash and others came along. I still enjoy listening now. Love to see them at Cropredy, the wrinkly rockers Status Quo went down well last year, I am sure The Hawks would too. Bring 'em on.  |

Hawkwind were superb at Beautiful Days a couple of years ago, but the Marmite effect (you either love them or hate them) was in full evidence so not sure how well they would go down with the Cropredy crowd where there is no alternative stage.

You either choose to listen or you choose not to. Jules To an extent, but with Hawkwind you have to take into account the vintage & who is involved (a bit like Fairport for some folks). Loved them to bits in the Robert Calvert days. Pretty much can live without anything since Nik Turner left, with the odd notable exception. Nik has done more good stuff under his own name since than Dave Brock & Hawkwind have managed. The clincher is Space Ritual. If you listen to that & don't get it, then you don't like them, but not only have they had lengthy dodgy periods, I reckon they've had more **** albums issued by dodgy labels, without the bands permission, than any still active band in history. |

I've been a fan of Hawkwind since the early 70s, when a school mate introduced them to me. I would still class them as my favourite band of all time and would love to see them at Cropredy.
But if not, how about Nik Turner's Space Ritual, most of the early Hawkwind members are in this band and to be honest they sound more like Hawkwind now a days than the real thing.
