Does anyone know of any sort of managerial tie up between the two mentioned above? I've noticed that ahab are getting quite a few mentions on the FC official site. Also, there are some pictures posted on Facebook that seem to indicate that Simon and Chris went to see them in Chipping Norton on SN's birthday? I'd personally be pleased with this arrangement if it were true, as I believe ahab could have a big future on the folk/alt country scene. Anyone know owt?  |

They sounded good from the River Cottage Canteen marquee, but watching the Sky Arts Cropredy programme I thought they were (sorry) nothing really special.

Well I enjoyed them at Cropredy and am really looking forward to see them support Otis Gibbs at the Musician next month. I feel they will come across even better in a small venue.

Do you reckon Murdoch, through Sky Arts, is running a one man campaign to ruin folk music on his channel? I saw the Cambridge Festival highlights and didn't think the sound was great on that either. I like to think I've got a pretty good sound system too. |

Well it seems the jury's out on this one!
Anyway there's another chance to see them locally to Cropredy, as they will be the guests at Banbury Folk Club next Wednesday, 3rd November, so those of you that are unsure come along and make your mind up!
ahab are a singer songwriter collective who formed in July 2009 after being invited to play the annual ‘Fanfare’ festival in Nashville, Tennessee.
Following a successful week long residency tearing the roof off at Tootsies Orchid Lounge, they came back to Dalston and decided to make the collaboration permanent. After a year spent writing new material and layering the songs thick with harmonies ahab decided to hit the streets of London’s markets to put their name around. Two months of busking and the band were asked by the police not to play at markets anymore as the crowds that had began to gather whenever they played were blocking the streets. ahab captured everyone’s imagination when they took the audience by storm at this year's Fairport's Cropredy Festival. ahab has a great line-up consisting of Callum Adamson, Dave Burn, Seebs Llewellyn & Luke Price. To give you some idea of what to expect, their influences come from Uncle Tupelo, Whiskey Town. Old Crow Medicine Show, The Be Good Tanyas and Paul Simon.
"ahab is the real - top notch UK Americana featuring tight four-piece harmonies." Simon Mayo, BBC Radio 2.
"I loved ahab's terrific performance at Cropredy festival. They are blistering live - alt-country edge and sheer class." Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2.
The club is in the Millers Bar at the Mill, Banbury and you need to be there by 8.30 pm. Admission £9 (£7 concessions)
The support to ahab will be Jossie Evans. Although barely 16, Jossie has built an enthusiastic following locally in Oxfordshire. She has been performing for about 4 years since an early appearance at the Bell in Adderbury. Mentored and encouraged by the McCormack’s (One Night Stand), Jossie shows an outstanding vocal talent and in the recent past she has also shown a flair for writing and performing her own compositions. Having performed at Adderbury's Party in the Park this summer, and supported the legendary Fairport Convention only last year, Jossie Evans is a rising young performer to watch out for. She is a regular at the Banbury Folk Festival and is often seen on the streets of Oxford, guitar in hand. Performing anything from Tracy Chapman to The Bee Gees, Jossie is also a keen writer and has been churning out her own original material for the past year. Influences like Laura Marling, Joni Mitchell and Damien Rice are an assurance that this girl and her guitar are worth a listen.
