I see that FC's tour schedule is clear between March and Cropredy, and after Cropredy.  I am wondering aloud if there is any possibility of US dates in 2011?

We're seeing RT at what used to be called the Old Settlers Bluegrass Festival here in April, and contemplating seeing The Chieftains this weekend, headlining a show at Riverbend Center.  Bonnie Raitt took Paul Brady around as her opening act a few years ago, and Neil Young took Bert Jansch all over the US last year.  There still seem to be plenty of forums for folk/roots music in this country.

Heres hoping of course, but I'm a little fearful that the same economic factors that cancelled the last proposed US tour might still be at play. Am holding out hope of course, at least for a lightning raid of NYC, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, etc....and for your sake-Austin! I definitely want them back, I haven't been able to see them since they toured for Over The Next Hill, so I'm really hoping this is the year

Looks a good line up at that festival, John F.A.
Maybe RT will put in a word for The Avett Brothers somewhere and they will be booked for Cropredy next year. (hopeful smiley thingy)

Based on the wording in their statement from last year justifying the cancellation of the proposed 2010 US tour, I'm sorry to say that imo it seems highly unlikely that we'll ever get the chance to see them over here again. I certainly do hope I am wrong...

The economy does seem to be improving some over here. I wasn't into the band when they last came over (my loss). I would think they could make some money playing some of the biggers festivals on the east coast, midwest and north. I'd travel in a heartbeat to see a show.

US Tour in 2012?  Fairport at 45?

Spring seems to be filling up, though summer and post-Cropredy remain open...

Looks like we'll catch the gang at Cropredy this summer, in any event.  Surprisingly, it doesn't cost that much more than traveling to the east or west coast from Texas.  (They are rarely sighted here even when they do cross the pond.)

Andy wrote "Not with Peggy". Does this mean that there is a acoustic tour planned again and Pegg is not invloved or what?
We in the US have not seen the band electric since the tour for OTNH.

Not with Peggy.

I think the failure to tour the US is probably mostly down to economics.

Is the Peggy thing still an issue? It has been some years since that incident and things seem rather more settled for him these days.

Agree with GubGub.....if the former works, I suspect the latter is probably solvable these days.

Can anyone remember the agency they were with in the USA?

"Real Good Music" - rgmbooking.com - was booking the most recent aborted U.S. tour.

I just checked and FC are not listed among the artists.

The economic factors are making it really difficult here for bands who don't have label support to offset some of the costs to make a tour viable. Also, I don't know if these laws have changed, but there was a real mess of work permits and all that kind of stuff post 9/11 which never were the case before...even for folk rockers from England. Its part of the reason that Oysterband hasn't toured here in forever..though they have been coming to Canada. In the 90's and early part of this decade, Fairport's albums were released on Green Linnet and Compass....and I think that definitely helped. They even played Newport Folk Festival one year. It has to be a hard slog, coming all this way and playing 2 sets a night in small clubs, to small, but enthusiastic and friendly audiences, running up and down the East Coast, then heading out to the midwest...with very few days off in between all of that, and lots of miles on the van. Of course I wish this weren't the case, and still hope for as I mentioned on this thread some time ago...a mini raid of just some big American cities....but I fear that this may not happen. Of course that just means I have to go back to England to see them and all you fine folk again.  Grin
