I had a listen last night to the double CD of Soft Machine's Alive and Well in Paris, the only album featuring Ric (New material recorded live and then fixed in the studio, so it's virtually a studio album). There's a quote from Ric where he comments that the album is not that representative of the lineup. (You struggle to hear the violin.)

Anyway, I had a look on Youtube and found some clips of this lineup.

Now I can see what Ric means when he says the Alive & Well album isn't that representative! The violin is playing far more lead in these clips than on the album.
