"Innaresting" as Neil Young would have said.. Indeed it has been said that it was near impossible to locate the exact spot anymore. But whoever's conclusion that was; he or she was wrong. The wooden trelliswork on the brick wall is no longer the same as on the recordsleeve. If you look carefully, you can see the differences. But the replacement surely was shaped with the old one in mind. Maybe by someone with some historic notion. To complement the idea your pal started out with: Worple Road was the adress were the family lived before they (or maybe only mrs. and mr. Denny) moved here. And maybe Arthur Road also was the spot where Neil Denny ended up living all alone, after his wife and son died a few years after Sandy did. What a way to grow old. -- greetings from Holland, Hans Valk

That's great work and photograph, and yet a strangely sad scene. The 2 or 3 times that I had been to try and view the scene, the 2 massive wooden gates were firmly closed, making it impossible to gain access. Congratulations to your pal.

He said that the gates being open was a major stroke of luck!

It looks to me as if the gate has been moved closer to the building on the far right of the picture.

Don't think so. Jim Irvin writing about the Unhalfbricking photo in his Mojo article in 1998: "Neil Denny, now 85, looks much the same today as he did back then. But now he lives alone in a maisonette in a quiet cul-de-sac..."

O.k., feel free to make fun of me. Seriously, I have no problem... I don't think I ever noticed that on the other side of the gate, sitting on the lawn, was the band. The only thing I can blame it on, is getting into Fairport (or, at least, into earlier Fairport) during the digital age. Meaning, I've only seen the CD cover, not the original LP cover. I think I would have seen them if I looked at the foot by foot LP cover, but somehow missed it on the CD cover.

I imagine that it was framed up that way, but I love the way each band member is in their own small section of trellis fence.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it just happened that way and wasn't set up at all.

If the photographer was smart, and I think he was, he'll have positioned himself so that he got that result.

Has anyone noticed your pal's link beneath the photo - Fairport's complete set on French TV in 1969, in full color? Wow!
