That's sad. I had a bit of a crush on her when she was with Arrival. Never delved into Kokomo, but looking just now, I see Crim's Mel Collins was in the band for a while. Must dig deeper.

I recall seeing him, with a version of The Spencer Davis Group (minus Steve Winwood) many moons ago. A great concert, played to an appreciative home Brummie audience R.I.P

Overshadowed by Steve Winwood but Spencer was a major talent and a relatively rare pop success from Swansea, my home patch.

His excellent 2008 album, So Far, has a lot of songs chronicling his formative years in South Wales.

Don't know if there are any other fans of The Outfield on here but their bassist and singer Tony Lewis died a few days ago.

The Outfield achieved a decent level of success in the USA but, for whatever reason, never manged to bother the chart compilers here in the UK, in their home country.  Really good band, nonetheless.

Tony released his first solo record - Out Of The Darkness - in 2018, which was excellent and apparently, a recent acoustic EP. Only 62, bless him.

One of my best friends played in The Outfield, so I’ve had a soft spot for them since. Sad news.

Indeed.

I've never understood why they didn't make as much as a ripple over here. Lots of good tunes.

Local legend. I saw him only once, at a corporate gig 20 years ago where few people were paying attention (not the best audience for a performer but a lucrative sideline). I’m sure the missus saw him at the armadillo back in the day. She saw everyone. RIP Jerry Jeff.

I am sadly unaware of the majority of his work, but I love 'Mr Bojangles'. Billy Mitchell does a lovely version on his 'Backtrackin' album R.I.P.

Bob Golinski from Brighton based post punk band The Golinski Brothers. 1980 single 'Bloody' was a big favourite of John Peel's and prompted him to say 'people have had the OBE for less, a lot less than that'.

Obituary from his partner published in The Guardian last week tells of a pretty amazing life outside of music as well, including smuggling literature into the then Czechoslavakia in support of human rights group Charter 77:

I love that song. I shall play it later in tribute. It appeared on one of the Vaultage compilations of Brighton bands, 79 I think. I have been trying to track them down at a sensible price as my access to them at the time was through a school friend's copy.

It is indeed on Vaultage 79 along with a track called ‘Too Scared’. There’s currently a ‘very good condition’ vinyl copy on eBay for £9.00 (buy it now) if you’re interested. Cheers!
