Sad news. One of my all-time Favourite bass players. A really soulful player who played with great taste and restraint & understood that less is often more... Free had a very special groove - & he underpinned it. They were so young too!! Cheers, Slippy

BBC News reporting that Percy Sledge has died, aged 73. Another classic soul voice gone. But we have his recordings...

Ronnie Carroll, of doubtful musical talent, but in the record books anyway.

Never heard of Mr Carroll, but have certainly heard Mr Sledge. Rest in peace, gentlemen.

One time Beach Boys manager and lyricist during the Surf's Up - Carl & The Passions - Holland era Jack Rieley. I'm a big fan of the contributions he made to some great songs of that period.
RIP Jack.

Jack Ely, lead singer of The Kingsmen, who's cover of Louie Louie is probably the best known version, passed away after "after a long battle with illness". He was 71. His son, Sean, confirmed the death on Wednesday. “Because of his religious beliefs, we’re not even sure what (the illness) was,” he said.
