Original country music outlaw Tompall Glaser, age 79.

Thankfully we still have Willie, Kris Kristofferson and Billy Joe Shaver (when he's not shooting guys in the face).

Thats a shame. A noted producer and writer of songs as well.

"Put Another Log On The Fire"?
From memory:
Put another log on the fire
Cook me up some bacon and some beans
Go out to the car and fix my flat tire
Darn my socks and sew my old blue jeans

Put another log on the fire, baby
And come and tell me why you're leaving me

Allen Lanier of Blue Oyster Cult

A major talent.  Such an awesome band...glad I got to see them back in the 90's.  So much more to them than *that* song.

Today's Daily Telegraph has a very thoughtful obituary on Lou Killen:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/10245684/Louisa-Jo-Killen.html
I first saw Lou in the '60s at Bristol University Folk Club - he had a fine voice and played a mean concertina. Years later, probably around 1999, I bumped into him in San Francisco at a sailing festival where he was singing sea shanties, including a great version of 'The Shoals of Herring'. He was certainly enjoying the local wine and ale, but managed to remember most of his words.  It was very surprising to learn what happened after this!

Didn't know about Alan Lanier, that's a real shame. One of the best US 70's bands, I feel.

Always had a soft spot for that Heavy Jelly track on the Island sampler,"Nice Enough To Eat". Didn't really know his work otherwise.

Farewell Lindsay Cooper, finally succumbed to MS. Great bassoon player with Comus & Henry Cow & contributor to Egg, Oldfield, the Hatfields, Steve Hillage, etc, as well as a raft of solo stuff.

Arguably played more oboe than bassoon didn't she, but, what the hell...was bloody good on both instruments.  Been very ill for a long long time, so no surprise, but a huge loss.  Very sad.

I think everyone really likes Thousands Are Sailing. Suddenly remembering another Pogues song of his (or maybe a co-write) called Lorelei which I like.

Sad news indeed.

(Who would have taken bets all those years ago on Shane McGowan outliving other band members???)

He was featured in Radio 4's "Last Words" this afternoon. I only just caught the end of it, but am downloading the podcast now.
