The Everlys were one of the brightest stars to shine. Incredible harmonies, with that extra bit of magic of the supposed "third" voice. RIP Phil.

I'd heard the Everly Brothers a lot on the radio as I grew up and liked the tunes,especially Bird Dog, which appealed most to a five year old,but it was only when I found some EB records in my parents collection a few years later and listened to them properly that the harmonies got me,particularly on Crying In The Rain,a unique and special sound (a lot like when I really paid notice of Karen Carpenter's voice around the same time).
A few years after that,I had cause to be annoyed at my parents who went to see them live and they didn't ask me if I wanted to go,because they thought I wouldn't be interested as I was into Pink Floyd.I put them straight on that,so the next concert they went to, they bought me a ticket....to see Showaddywaddy...it was good fun but not a rare chance to see legends from the proper rock 'n roll era.
I know the brothers weren't as harmonious personally as musically,and that that sound was lost to us some time before,but it is sad that we will never hear them sing together again.

The Everly brothers are my dads favourite artist and I therefore have more than a soft spot for them. My first ever concert was the Everly brothers at the Liverpool empire in 1985, with Albert lee on guitar. I was 12 at the time but still thought it was wonderful. I really like some of their 'later' stuff like love is strange, roots, stories we could tell etc. Phils solo album, star spangled Springer, also has some great tracks. Sad news.

I got 'dragged along' to the Albert Hall in '83. It was jawdroppingly good. I hardly ever listen to them, but they're always in my head somewhere..

Yes, me too. Phil even managed to make a great record with Cliff Richard so he must have been good. His solo album from around 1982 used to get played a lot when I worked in a record store and I always enjoyed it. Being part of that first generation of rock n rollers I am almost surprised that he wasn't older. Just goes to show how very young they were at the time. |

My father's younger brother did have a lot singles, several of them were by The Everly Brothers, I did borrow them from him when I was about eleven years old, also around that time in ice cream parlours there were juke boxes were you could hear (amongst others) The Everly Brothers. All those songs are etched in my memory and even now after all those years although my music preference had changed over the years I still do have a soft spot for them.
