From the Renaissance Facebook page:

"Renaissance keyboard player John Tout passes away.

John Tout passed away this Friday, May 1st at 4.30pm from lung failure at The Royal Free Hospital, London, England.
He was an amazing musician, highly contributing to the unique sound of the band from 1970 - 1980. He was the quiet (but funny) one in the band, always very caring towards the fans and good friend to Annie Haslam, Terence Sullivan, Jon Camp and Michael Dunford
He will always be in our hearts and music! Please share your thoughts and photos of John."

For me his keyboard work was always exquisite.  RIP John and thank you.

I love Hot Chocolate, they wrote great songs with great melodies and Errol was the perfect front man. The fact that my car is going to cost £400 quid to repair becomes insignificant with such sad news. Rest In Peace Errol you will be sadly missed. I always liked their version of Costello's Green Shirt.

I always liked Errol.  Hot Chocolate were very commercial pop (hell, they were on Rak Records, which was as pop as it gets), yet he still had a rare dignity.  And you can't deny how catchy the songs were.  Rest in peace, Errol.

On Apple originally of course.

Some of their early hits were surprisingly hard edged social commentary of course, before they went down the very commercial pop route. Those early sides, like Brother Louie are my favourites.

I remember Brother Louie.  First thing I heard by them, so it must have charted pretty well.

Yes it did. Their third or fourth top 10 single I think. Also featured Alexis Korner.

At least his departure wasn't too drawn-out. The memories are strong and the music will live on.

Fortunate to see him a couple of times and don't think I have ever seen a performer so completely joyous. You cam away feeling all was right with the world having spent time with him. Ironic given that he was singing the blues! A lovely man.
