Andy M Stewart of Silly Wizard. Terrific voice. When I was getting into folk music 30 odd years ago, Silly Wizard were the tops. Never saw them live but have several albums still as well as some solo work of his. The By The Hush album from 1983 or thereabouts is an absolutely stunning album I must get on CD one of these days.
I missed that at the time. Love his voice, both with Silly Wizard and his solo stuff. His Fire In The Glen album (with Phill Cunningham and Manus Lunny) is a big favourite of mine. A few weeks late, I know. I didn't get round to commenting at the time, but I stumbled across this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aleyPzq_I8ctoday - fitting and poignant, I think.

RIP Mott The Hoople's Dale Griffin. From Angel Air Records' Facebook page :
"DALE GRIFFIN aka BUFFIN 1948-2016. One of the nicest, friendly and talented men I have ever known.. All he ever wanted was for his beloved Mott The Hoople to reform and it was his detirmination that achieved that very feat in 2009 but sadly by then he was too ill to perform at the five sold out dates though he did join the band for encores. Dale died peacefully in his sleep yesterday. RIP"

So glad I got to see him play with the band, if only briefly in 2009. I thought he was older than 67 though. Mott (along with the Beatles) were/are my desert island band. It had been a rough couple of weeks.

Buffin was one of the most underrated drummers out there. I remember seeing Mott the Hoople in 1974, when they were touring to promote the 'Mott' album. I was totally transfixed by his style. He also sang backing vocals and never missed a beat. Of course he also worked behind the scenes on many a programme on Radio 1.

RIP Glenn Frey
Eagles have posted the following:
"It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our comrade, Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016.
Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia."

Good Lord what is going on this year? What a horrible few weeks. The Eagles are a band that strongly divides opinion and Frey in particular came across as a monster in the recent authorised documentary about them but there is no denying just how huge they were. I certainly have a soft spot for some of their recordings.

I'm a definite Eagles fan. Whatever you think of them 67 is far too young. RIP.

I used to be a big Eagles fan when I was younger, but I grew apart from them somewhat except for the early albums country vibe. Take It Easy is still easily in my top 10 songs. On one of his 80's solo albums he also did a great rendition of that old song Seacruise which I have fond memories of. RIP Glenn.

Glenn Frey I became quite emotional at my last Eagles concert, May 19, 2015, at the Frank Erwin Center, when Bernie Leadon played the solo during "Peaceful Easy Feeling." I think I knew it was my final chance to see the Eagles, but I didn't know how final it really was.
