I really like Prince's music,  it is not what you could call typical "black" music, that's to say soul, r'n'b, rap etc., but something altogether more edgy and the sort of thing you have to listen to, and listen again. Some of his songs sung by other people, e.g. Nothing Compares by Sinead O'Connor and Kiss by Tom Jones are better than his versions but are knockout songs in their own right. I never could understand his "Symbol" era, though I was amused in a Welsh way when I heard him described as TAFCAP, but hey, he was the Purple Prince so he could do pretty much whatever he wanted. I'd love to have seen him live.

Prince's own Kiss is the definitive one in my book.

It seems that not everything is on the Internet.

I was looking for a Prince track. "Don't Play Me" from 'The Truth'. It's just him, acoustic guitar, rather brilliant and you've never heard of it. That's how much he did.

Heretic! Actually, I like them both - they're quite different.

You have to call him David or they won't let you in, you know.

Whilst Prince's song writing and showmanship was known to the world I am almost ashamed to admit that his guitar playing genius had sort of passed me by.

I have just watched that clip of him playing on While my Guitar Gently Weeps with Tom Petty, Steve Winwood et al.

Outstanding !

Remo Belli, founder of the Remo drum company, developed the first synthetic drum head in 1957, thus changing the sound of percussion for ever.

Oh no! Loved his playing with Man & the Neutrons. I remember watching Man on the telly - possibly on Grnada Reports - and my Mum saying of Phil "oh, he's got lovely eyes!"

RIP Phil  Sad
