Chips produced Elvis's outstanding 1969 Memphis sessions.  May he rest in peace.

Sad but not a surprise. He has been ailing for some years.

Not many people are allowed to know better than Macca in the studio but Henry did.

We've just passed the 21st anniversary of Rory Gallagher's death. (Facebook is good for something.)  A supremely talented and, by all accounts, a gracious man, who seemed to suffer very privately.

Bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley, at the age of 89.

He experienced a career renaissance at 73 when the soundtrack of the film O Brother Where Art Thou became an unexpected smash. That's him singing "O Death" a capella.

Amen.  Ralph was a living legend.  Now he'll have to settle for just being a legend.  Farewell, Mr Stanley.

RIP Wayne. We lost his best friend and musical partner, Andrew Love, several years ago. The Memphis Horns are all over my favorite records of the 1970s, including most of the Doobie Brothers' oeuvre.  That's Andrew playing the sax solo on "Takin' It To The Streets," and they funked up the entire album "What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits."  Love and Jackson composed and played such amazing horn parts.

Saw him play a small show in a brewery near me a few years ago... Absolutely incredible performer and a super nice guy. His solo rendition of 'Come Together' at the end, after the band had left the stage, will always stay with me. RIP, Bernie.

Lovely.  Thanks for sharing that, Austin.  I'm glad to hear he was a nice guy too.

Sad day....I saw him play just after he had suffered a stroke or a brain tumour or whatever it was, and he was told he would never play again. He was back on stage within weeks at the age of 72. To see him strike the cords to the intro of Heartbreak Hotel was an honour and a thrill.

R.I.P Scotty.
