Saxa of The Beat
Oh that's a shame, he always seemed to be such a colourful character. He must have been pretty old.

My claim to fame is that I did part of my mental health nurse training with David Steele, the bass player with The Beat - and later The Fine Young Cannibals. I recall him telling me that his band, who had been doing mainly punky stuff,  were playing with a new drummer (who turned out to be Everett Morton) which was leading them in a new reggae tinged direction. One of the last times I spoke to him he spoke of a sax player who was perhaps joining them.....

Last weekend I saw the Beat in Birmingham and Saxa introduced them onto stage. Roger seemed quite emotional with him.

I first came across Jimmy on the first UPP album; a fine, funky drummer. RIP

As it's very much music-related, it ought to be noted that one of the founders of Talking Elephant Records has passed away from "A FAST AGGRESSIVE ILLNESS". Boy, it must have been fast - a really nice guy. RIP Barry, you'll be missed!
