I'm now seeing some rumours that he isn't dead, but is still on life-support:

BBC news reported just now (midnight news) he’s seriously ill. Hopefully reports of his demise were premature...

How sad - he only finished his 40th anniversay tour last week. Great singer and songwriter. Another Wilbury gone.

I never really thought of him as an old rocker, probably because he first came to my notice around the time of punk with American Girl, then you remember it was 40 years ago!

I always dreamed of seeing Tom and the heartbreakers head thursday at Cropredy.

Love his music , which will stand the test of time . Mary Jane's last dance ,Running down a dream and refugee are simply amongst the best rock songs written.

And oh so much more in a fabulous catalog of work.

I hope Michael Campbell, Benmont Tench, Ron Blair ,Scott Thurston and Steve Ferrone who are possibly the tightest group and greatest ensemble of virtuosos playing in one act can return after a suitable period of mourning to refresh my dream in tribute of their leader and friend.

That would have been incredible. Did anyone see them in Hyde Park recently?

TP/Bob Dylan - June 21, 1986 at the Frank Erwin Center
TP/Georgia Satellites - May 29, 1987, Frank Erwin Center
TP/? - September 17, 1999, Frank Erwin Center
TP/Gary Clark Jr. - May 2, 2017 Frank Erwin Center

As we stood in an unpleasantly hot and long line to enter the Frank Erwin Center last May, we discussed the fact that 18 years had elapsed since we had last seen Tom Petty.  After the show, we agreed that we should not wait another 18 years to see him again.  Sad

Television?  Impossible.

There is no way on earth I'd spend that kind of money on a concert ticket and not go.  Actually, there's no way on earth I'd spend that much money on a concert ticket full stop.

Saw him with a ukelele given to him by George Harrison for one of George's Thursday evening uke sessions in Henley. He had said to George that he didn't have a uke to join in that evening and George walked over to his car, opened the boot and invited him to choose from several that languished there.
