RIP Geoff Emerick, chief engineer and architect of The Beatles' sound from Revolver onwards, Grammy winner for his work on Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road, later working with Wings, Elvis Costello, Badfinger, Supertramp, Cheap Trick, America and Nick Heyward.
Regarding "A Day In The Life", he said :
“The night we put the orchestra on it, the whole world went from black and white to colour."

Peggy Sue, the real one in Lubbock Texas. Married Allinson, the Crickets drummer, apparently.

Heart attack. He had suffered from heart problems for a long time and had a pacemaker.

Geoff was a real talent. Some of those records sound like they do because of him. Go well, Geoff.

Me too! They were playing it in the local 'heads' record shop in Guildford. I was 13, it was 1975 (the album is from '69) It 'blew my mind' as they say... Still love it. Cheers, Slippy

I wouldn't call Tony JW country, more blues and "swamp", but he was a great guitarist who wrote some great songs and delivered them in his own inimitable growling style. Very glad I caught him live in London 10 years ago. If you don't know his music, check out "Lake Placid Blues", a truly great album RIP TJW.

Hugh McDowell of ELO and Wizzard.
Sad to read that. He played on my two favourite ELO albums - A New World Record and Out of the Blue.

Sad to read that. He played on my two favourite ELO albums - A New World Record and Out of the Blue. Unfortunately his erstwhile bandleader no longer sees fit to acknowledge Hugh's existence or that of any of the other band members, grumpy old megalomaniac that he has become. He probably thinks he was the entire Travelling Wilburys too. ELO's original sound could not have happened without the likes of Hugh, Melvin Gale and Mik Kaminski but you will never hear that from Mr Lynne.

Yes and his onstage persona shows that all too clearly as well judging from the last 2 ELO gigs I’ve been to in recent years

Well, the likes of yes, given that Melvyn Gale didn’t join ELO until 1975 and Hugh McDowell didn’t leave Wizzard to join the band until after the release of On the Third Day.

Perhaps i should have said classic sound rather than original. And Hugh played on some of the second ELO album while he was still in Wizzard.
