Rest In Peace Alan Bell of the Taverners, who were a fixture of my youth having seen them various times with my parents. I found them to be like a more serious equivalent of the likes of the Yetties and the Houghton Weavers although they could be a laugh too. Alan wrote the song Bread and Fishes and many other great songs. I still have my I saw the taverners in the forest badge from when they did a gig at the theatre in the forest at Grizedale. I remember him being part of a sing around at Furness Folk Festival at Ulverston and he was sill in fine voice, (I decided not to join in that afternoon). I first saw him on Saturday Night Live, circa 1975 or 1976. He was so eccentric and his choice of material so unusual that I thought it might be a joke - I thought it was John Belushi under the hat and sunglasses. He was utterly unique; I'm sorry I never got a chance to see him live before he retired. RIP
