Eddie and the Hot Rods vocalist Barrie Masters have left us.
"Do Anything You Wanna Do" will be played at my funeral  Such an exciting single. I bought it, but I don't know what happened to it. Travel on well, Barrie. Jules Oh that’s sad  his passing makes me think...Eddie & the Hot Rods were from my neck of the woods and he was only 5 years older than me! Just dug out my vinyl copy of Teenage Depression and listening to it with fond memories RIP Barrie |

Very sad indeed. I went to see The Damned in Southend last year and all through the gig I kept thinking that I recognised the chap standing next to me - it was Barrie. Low and behold he walks on stage for the encore and they play 'Do What You Wanna Do'.

Kim Shattuck, briefly bass player for the Pixies, founder of the Muffs, has died of ALS at the age of 56. She was really bummed out when the Pixies fired her following a brief tour, I recall. According to contemporary reports no reason was given, but she suspected it was because she upstaged the other band members during the shows, including unauthorized stage-diving. By all accounts, she was an enthusiastic performer. RIP Kim |

His family have announced the death of Peter Edward "Ginger" Baker, 80. An amazing drummer and terrifying in person. In a nice way. Sort of. Ginger plays "Toad" |

RIP Ginger - saw him a few years ago at the Brudenell in Leeds and he was AMAZING - I mean PHENOMENAL.  How he survived to 80 given the abuse he gave his body is quite amazing too - to fail 29 times to give up a long term heroin addiction and chain smoke through it all - medical science really needs to investigate this. Keith Richards too....!

We saw Ginger on June 11, 2015, at the One World Theater. This was my only opportunity to see him live, as he virtually retired soon after. He was recovering from a bout with pneumonia, but he said he dragged himself off his death bed because he "couldn't disappoint Austin." He berated members of the audience for whistling and hooting while he was trying to talk between numbers. He was obviously struggling, both with breathing and movement. But when he started to play, he made the most remarkable sounds I've ever heard emerging from drums. As we agreed afterward, Mrs. J From A and I could actually hear melodies from the drums. It was also delightful to watch him beam affectionately at his fellow musicians during the songs. He introduced his percussionist, Abass Dodoo, as his favorite musician in the world. He may not have cared much for us, but he seemed to love them.
P.S. - My friend and drum teacher was the hired drum tech for this show. He was star struck and speechless afterward.
RIP and God Bless Ginger Baker and his family.

Larry Junstrum. I dont know a lot about the band, but I understand they lost some of their number to a plane crash some time ago now. Larry was a founding member and was 70.

Larry Junstrom was the original bassist for Lynyrd Skynyrd, but after 7 years with the group he departed before they recorded their first album. He later joined .38 Special, from which he retired only recently. They had a string of hit singles in the late '70s and early '80s in the Southern Rock vein. R.I.P. |

I thought this during 2016 when we lost so many entertainers. It’s going to be difficult It’s scary when you see the list of artists in their seventies. Mind you, although I tend to think that’s very old, I’ll be there in a little over 10 years...gulp |
