Did you catch up with Tom Leary?
I did, we had a lovely chat at the end and his playing was just wonderful... he’s been teaching Joe to play the fiddle he said (Joe said).

I thought this during 2016 when we lost so many entertainers. It’s going to be difficult Well it'll be fun for those of us who are also getting used to death walking just behind us, if only to see if we see off Keef and Charlie Watts before our own inevitable demise

Paul Barrere of Little Feat. Just announced on Little Feat’s FB page That's sad. Little Feat turned in a fine set at Cropredy a few years back. RIP.

I've done 32 successive cropredys and theirs was the best set ever. RIP Paul.

RIP Paul Barrere I was too young to enjoy Little Feat in their Lowell-George-led prime. I collected all their CDs and became intimately familiar with their catalog during their hiatus from 1979-1988. Then I got to see the reconstituted Feat 9 or 10 times between 1988 and 2002. During that stretch they shed a couple of strong lead singers (particularly the wonderful Craig Fuller) and played smaller and smaller venues, until they stopped coming to Austin altogether. I missed the Fred and Paul club show here a few years ago, to my eternal regret. Without Lowell, then Richie, and now Paul, I wonder if they will soldier on. Note of trivia - My favorite Feat song, of many, is the uncharacteristically earnest "Easy to Slip" from Sailin' Shoes. Toward the end, Sandy recorded a cover of this great tune which surfaced as a bonus track on Rendezvous.

And just for completion sake, my version of Rendezvous has no bonus tracks but there is a version of Easy To Slip on the Attic Tracks of Sandy and Trevor. Not sure if it is the same version or one from another source. As to Paul Barrere, I too never saw the Feats live sadly, but one I wished I had. As John mentioned, its hard to think of them continuing on now. I noticed that Shaun Murphy (who I'll be seeing tomorrow in Bob Seger's band) paid tribute to him on FB and seemed hit hard by the news.

Larry 'The Mole' Taylor. Fab bass player - best known for the 'classic' line-up of Canned Heat in their late 60s heyday. Previously a sessioner (The Monkees etc) he went on to play with John Mayall & more recently Tom Waits. Cheers, Slippy

That's a real shame. Great band, Spirit Of The West. A small comfort, I suppose, that he was with friends and family at the end.
