 I met Clive when I worked briefly for Shelter Music, he came to on of the gatherings and kept us in complete stitches for an hour or two. His work with Pete Atkin was superb

There is a delightful tribute programme on right now (BBC2 7.30-8) – When Mary Beard met Clive James.  Such a talented man.

I'm ashamed to say I've never read any of his books, I will put that right by getting the first of his autobiographies.

'Unreliable Memoirs' is not to be read in public, unless you don't mind drawing attention.

But do read 'Loose Canon' (The extraordinary songs of Clive James & Pete Atkin). Then buy the albums.
The topic of these songs came up when my sister and I were talking to Ralph. Another fan in club that deserves to be bigger.

I can agree re Unreliable Memoirs... a friend loaned me a copy when I was at school, and just said, 'Read this...'I had no idea what to expect.
I was not disappointed.
It may have taken me forty years, and his sad passing to buy a copy of my own, but I ordered one last night. R.I.P Clive.

and R.I.P Jonathan too....it says a lot about him that a friend told me he inspired her to become a nurse, whereas with me, he was a huge influence in learning to appreciate the works of Shakespeare.

Both highly intelligent and witty people. A major loss in both cases.
