I went to a few Fleadhs but I rarely saw anything on the main stages so I might well have got this wrong.  |

This is the third passing to break my heart in a week after Adam Schlesinger and Bill Withers. I am a huge Prine fan and was lucky enough to see him once at the Shepherd's Bush Empire about 15 years ago. His performance of Lake Marie remains one of the highlights of my gig going life.
Lake Marie is one of the greatest love songs ever. Obviously John Prine was one of the greatest artists I have ever heard and (gratefully) ever seen. |

He was in The Soft Boys, The Thompson Twins, Thomas Dolby’s band, backed David Bowie at Live Aid (and reputedly came up with a line change for his and Jagger’s version of ‘Dancing In The Street’ in the studio), played bass on ‘Absolute Beginners’ and did session work on This Is The Sea and for acts as diverse as Transvision Vamp, Tori Amos and The Stereo MCs. Another COVID19 tragedy.

Sad news indeed. He helped change the face of radio and opened up music broadcasting in this country enabling us to listen to the music we wanted. A good friend of mine was a DJ on the ship (Dave Andrews now on Gold radio) and his very first record on his very first show was dedicated to me and our close group of friends. RIP Ronan |

Radio Caroline was the background to my youth, coming out of scratchy car radios overlaid with the strange monotonous jamming signal. I was listening on the night it sank, the station was a huge influence on my musical tastes introducing me to warren Zevon, Louden wainwright and many many others. |

Jacques Pellen, French jazz guitarist. Played with many but in these circles, he was one of many musicians that were part of Dan Ar Braz’s Heritage des Celts. Another lost to Covid 19 😕
