Gosh, that's a shame. He was the support act the first time I ever saw Fairport (very early Nineties?) and I still enjoy the cassette copy of Crystal Ball Gazing I bought that evening. Lost touch with him after that for a decade or so but I managed to catch him live a couple of times in the early 2000s. Always excellent and seemed to be a nice chap too. |

That's a fabulous album that has stood the test of time. Kieron and Maart stayed with us when I booked him to play our folk club. He was a very passionate bloke and Maart was a real gentleman. |

I'm very sad to hear about the death of Edward Van Halen at 65.
Re-writing the rule book of how to play electric guitar seemingly overnight when Van Halen's self-titled debut album landed in 1978.
Popularising two-handed fretboard tapping techniques, his famous "brown" guitar tone enabling squealing, scraping and dive-bombing without audiences having to cover their ears, his home constructed candy cane "Frankenstein" guitars, etc.
He'll be remembered mostly for the symbiotic musical relationship with his band mates in the "classic" Van Halen lineups - perfect foils for such a unique and iconic guitarist.
RIP Eddie...you were truly a game-changer !

EVH was on my bucket list for years and years. I finally crossed him off in 2015, during what turned out to be their final tour.
I can testify, from my vantage point near the front, that he played brilliantly, looked hale and hearty, and positively moved me to tears. RIP Eddie.

Eddie Van Halen at just 65
 In a pub in Warrington in 1996 “Why Can’t This Be Love” came on the jukebox. I was singing along when this short, cheeky, good-looking guy joined in & we were soon singing harmonies to the chorus. Seemed were both huge Van Halen fans, and he was quite envious of me having seen Van Halen support Bon Jovi the year before. Anyway fast forward 3 years and we got married. We still play VH on long car journeys & sing along loudly (and badly!) Riff In Peace Eddie  |
