So sad. He was a really nice guy. I met him a few times (he went out with a friend of mine for a while) and the Strawbs were the first band that I saw live. A note on their Facebook page suggests that he contracted C.19 while already in hospital. In the 90's we used to travel to Wolverhampton for gigs a lot and the favourite band band of the manager of The Wulfrun (and The Civic) were Oysterband. The supports were nearly always great too - Whiskey Priests / Tansads / Chumbawamba etc. That was where we first saw the Whiskey Priests and followed them a lot after that (ditto Tansads/Merry Hell) , even getting on the guest list. I've bought a lot of stuff from Gary in recent years and only in the last couple of weeks did he announce that The WP would not play again so he must have known something about Mick then. I think I will start working my way through Bloody Well Everything again. |
