Just read that Nanci Griffith has passed away. She was 68.

Very sad news.

I discovered her music via Little Love Affairs when I was a teenager and it opened the door to a wonderful world of folk and country that I didn't even know existed. What a singer and songwriter she was!

Very sad to hear this. As well as beatifully covering Julie Gold's "From A Distance", an exceptional set at Glatonbury one year, '97 I think, made me a convert.

This performance has long been a favourite, with Jerry Douglas & Danny Thompson.

She'll be with her pal John...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7Gv7UNX2X4

I really don't really go for Americana, but the two of these were pleasant exceptions for me. Shocking to lose her so young.

Hammond B3 virtuoso and singer Mike Finnigan, aged 76, of kidney cancer.

Most recently, he was part of Bonnie Raitt's touring band. She featured him heavily in her show. R.I.P.
Discovered over the weekend he was a session musician on Electric Ladyland!

Well, I never knew that.  Having looked at the personnel listed on the wiki page at least I could also say exactly the same about virtually all of the players on that.

Country singer and songwriter- Tom T Hall, 'The Songwriter', aged 85. Tom wrote so many songs that people covered, I'd love to see a comprehensive list someday. But probably none as famous as Harper Valley PTA, although growing up, we had a copy of one of his children's albums which had my favorite song of his-Sneaky Snake. He had a terrific voice, but as I'm already seeing on social media, it was the quality of the man' songwriting that really stood out.

Bye bye Don Everly. RIP.

From Linda T on FB: "Farewell Don Everly.
After a spectacular Everly Brothers concert in London, I went to the after party. Albert Lee introduced me to Don, who held my hand in a crowded bar, complimented my singing, and sang Dimming of the day to me. It’s a wonder I didn’t die on the spot.
They were my first musical loves. There’s never been a better sound than they had."

She later admits it may have been Phil that sang it to her, but hey, don't ruin a good story, eh?!

Fabulous singers Fabulous story. Vocalwise one or two got close but no one ever equalled them.

Very sad...my mum always played them a lot when I was a child/teen and my sis and I used to sing the harmonies ( as best we could!).

Love the Linda T story!

Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel reunited the Everly Brothers for what turned out to be the final S&G tour in 2004. Mrs. J From A and I had floor seats in Austin, very near the stage, so we got to see Phil and Don in what turned out to be one of their final performances. (I believe they performed two songs as a duo, and S&G joined them for two more.) R.I.P. to them both.  Sad
