Just been reading some of his story. He was in The Mongrels, which evolved into ELO, with Bob Brady, later of Fairport...

I've been reading the very same. Interesting career. I knew about Price and Lee because his brother, my boss, told me about it. He comes over as a thoroughly good egg. RIP Rick. Jules

I was surprised that in the BBC website report there was no mention of his work with Jon Anderson which I would have thought, aside from Chariots Of Fire, was probably his most famous/commercially successful work.

I had no idea that State of Independence was a Jon & Vangelis song. I only knew the Donna Summer version. https://www.songfacts.com/facts/donna-summer/state-of-independence

I’m a big fan of Vangelis but particularly his work with Jon Anderson. Lots of Vangelis being played today. RIP

Cathal Coughlan, former Microdisney & Fatima Mansion, known to me only from his solo material. Aged 61 after a long illness.

Very sad indeed. I'm glad that he and Sean got to play together again in recent years.

RIP Alan White. Now two of the lovely gentlemen in this 2013 picture, with a younger, heavier me, have moved on.

Incredibly sad news...drummer Alan White of Yes has passed away at 72 after a short illness.
One of my favourite drummers since I was a 14 year old discovering (and attempting to copy) his phenomenal work on Yes' "Relayer" album and beyond to the the diamond-hard tautness of "90125", "Big Generator", "Talk" and subsequent stick swiping, staying fiercely loyal to the finest British prog-rock band he joined in 1972 in time for their "Close To The Edge" US tour.
With the passing of bassist Chris Squire in 2015, one of the truly greatest rhythm sections in (progressive) rock is no longer with us, but the peerless music they created will live for all time.
RIP Mr White...time to raise a glass and play some of his finest (possibly "The Gates Of Delirium") very loud !

I saw Yes on May 3rd 1975, my third ever gig after Slade and 10CC. I’ve always had a “thing” for drummers and Alan was blonde and energetic… RIP Alan. I hope you and Chris are already busy keeping rhythm for a prog jazz band somewhere “up there”.

Of course there was more to Alan's CV than Yes, even they were his longest musical gig. He also played for the Plastic Ono Band, George Harrison, Terry Reid, Alan Price, and others. Imagine. One year you're playing, uh, Imagine. Two years later you're playing something called The Revealing Science of God. Nuts. Rest in peace, Mr White. Oh, and here's a link to a nice video of him playing with Jon Anderson and Steve Howe and some other chaps on a musical adaptation of a William Blake poem for his (far from) solo album Ramshackled. It's really quite lovely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sbjZz3ajzMJules
