Today, someone published a breaking news story about the death of B.B. King at the age of 89.

That's the slowest news break in history, given that he died in 2015.

Heard today that Mike Whellans passed away. He was a musical partner of Ally Bain, a Boy of the Lough and a fantastic solo performer, playing drums, guitar, mouth organ and singing, often all at the same time. He could entertain like few people I have seen, with an infectious energy that made the music look easy.

I met him a few times and played with him once, after a local charity festival. My mate, one of the organisers, asked if I fancied sitting in on bass at a 'wee session with a few of us.' The 'few of us' included Mike, Benny Gallagher (Gallagher & Lyle), Drew McCulloch (Slim Chance), Gus Glen ( London session player/West End MD) as well as some local characters, all top players. It was quite a session, which I managed to survive.

Dedpite having been unwell for some time, he'll be missed from the Scottish folk scene.

Paul Burton of Help Yourself...reported by his wife on FB.

This is Paul Burton’s wife.
It’s with a broken heart that I tell you my darling Paul died this morning. He went peacefully, with me and other family members holding his hand.
Sleep tight my love, no more suffering 💔

Not a musician, but...Sam Cutler, legendary tour manager for the Stones and the Dead (plus Floyd, EC et al)...  He made it to 80!  Quite a character.

A tortured genius indeed. Obvious parallels with Dolores O'Riordan. RIP
