It's being said online that David LaFlamme of It's a Beautiful Day has died... I saw them at the Trades about a decade or so again and they were surprisingly bloody good.

Sad to hear this. "White Bird" is one of my favorite songs of that era. Mrs. J From A saw It's a Beautiful Day open for The Moody Blues in north Texas circa 1970-1971, with the inimitable Pattie Santos on vocals. To this day she remembers Pattie's charisma. What a great band, with some of the best rock violin ever recorded. R.I.P. David LaFlamme. |

If it's true, then it's a sad day. I have most of their LPs, and self titled "It's A Beautiful Day" is one of my top 10 LPs of all time. In the early 1970s, after listening to that, and partaking of a rather oddly perfumed and larger than average cigarette, I spent the next 2 whole days rather relaxed. Never smoked again after that, but still listen to IABD regularly.
RIP Mr LaFlamme, thank you.

I have just seen this too. I guess we should be coming to expect these things but that one hurts. Ouch, indeed. I am too young to have seen The Band with Robbie, and missed all opportunities to see the re-formed Band without him. At least I got to see Levon's project, some years back. I gather Robbie never properly toured as a solo artist, only popping up occasionally to promote a project or pay tribute to a fellow artist. Music from Big Pink and the "Brown" album are two of the best pieces of work in my collection. R.I.P. |

Whitesnake were my favourite band of the late seventies/early eighties.
He wrote the music for a lot of the 'Snakes hits including Here I Go Again, and also a hilarious little skit he read out on Tommy Vance's Rock On ! programme concerning Whitesnake's rather miss matched U.S tour supporting Jethro Tull, written, for some reason in pidgin French. (Les Snakes :Ou et le soundcheck ? M Tull : Quelle soundcheck ? etc)
I met him a few times and he was always friendly and happy to sign stuff.

Not a great fan of metal but seen seen him twice in different formats and he was superb. Once acoustic with amongst others Fluff and Jim Kirkpatrick and once full on electric again with Jim and others. A sad loss. |

Sad times. His “Where’s my Guitar?” is a terrific read, including shenanigans aplenty - not least the time he fell out so badly with UFO that they all agreed to pretend he’d never been in the band. Nevertheless there’s a demo version of ‘Doctor, Doctor’ that he’s on which suggests that the official writing credits might be a little disingenuous… I really enjoyed his Whitesnake work, when they were still a hard blues rock band, not least his ability to stand in for Glenn Hughes (“My friend Bernie Marsden’s gonna sing for ya..!”) |
